Immediately following my 11-week internship at Harris, the cousins and I took an amazing trip to Cancún, Mexico. I would love to come back again, but until then, I’ll reminisce with this post and all the photos I took.
Since this was my first time taking an international vacation at a resort, I did not have any expectations, so I thought the resort was fine. However, my cousin was not pleased with the resort (in comparison to the resort they went to the last time they were in Cancún - Solaris, I think). His opinion would be to spend your money at a different resort.
One of my goals for this trip was to see the sunrise. I’ve always wanted to see the sunrise over the ocean, and I knew this was the perfect opportunity. On Tuesday, I woke up early at 6:10, and at exactly 6:23 AM (the time of the sunrise as determined from Google), the top of the sun peeked across the horizon. Within a few minutes, the sun was a complete circle, and later I took this beautiful photo with my phone.
On Wednesday, we took a catamaran to Isla Mujeres, “Women Island”. The island was a 20 minute boat ride from the Temptation resort. Our boat was the Saga Boy Too, and the crew was really nice! Apparently, there’s a statue of the Mayan goddess of fertility on the island. They say if you visit the statue as two people, you leave as three!
This was my first time on a catamaran, and it was breathtaking how blue the Carribean Sea was.
I definitely recommend checking out Isla Mujeres. The waves on the beach were gentle and clear as opposed to rough and seaweed-filled at the resort. The village was very small, but there were plenty of shops to check out.
Our next destination was the Mayan temple of Chichén Itzá. I remember thinking that I was so grateful the day was cloudy. Had it been sunny like the day before, we would have been pretty miserable with it being so humid. It was pretty lucky timing to have gone that Thursday.
Going to Chichén Itzá was absolutely the highlight of my trip. I remember learning about Mesoamerica (the time of the Mayan, Aztec, and Incan civilizations) for Science Academic team back in middle school. Seeing the ruins and being in that spot was just amazing.
Here’s a photo of the top of the temple, a photo to remember how for a moment, I forgot about the world and just looked.
Then, here’s a boomerang of Donald and me doing the Dragon Ball Z fusion.
Anyone who has watched The Road to El Dorado will know what the video below is!
To end our trip, we went to the Bovino’s restaurant Friday night. The food was great, and the memorable part of that was meeting their magician, Albert Guntz, had a lot of cool tricks.
The trip was just great! I had a lot of fun and made so many good memories. There were some things we didn’t get to do like spinnaker flying and jet skiing, but I hope we’ll have a chance in our cousin’s vacation in the upcoming years. Hope you enjoyed reading!
